Indirect Cost Rates (aka IDC or F&A)

Indirect Cost Rates

  • Standard Rate: 35% Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC)

Use the standard indirect cost rate unless the sponsor specifies a lower limit. Any reduced rate must be clearly published by the sponsor and applied consistently to all applicants.

Use these estimates when preparing proposal budgets. Actual rates will be applied upon award.

Base Rates

  • Full-time employees and 9-month faculty: 46%
  • 9-month faculty (summer) and Additional Compensation: 18.15%
  • Students and graduate assistants: 2%
  • Temporary or casual employees: 9.65%

Additional Notes

  • Health insurance increases are projected to rise annually
    • FY28, 56% of salary
    • FY29, 63.5% of salary
    • FY30, 71% of salary
    • FY31, 78.5% of salary 
  • Include detailed breakdown only if required by sponsor
    • FICA = 6.2%
    • Medicare = 1.45%
    • Retirement = 8.5%
