Priority perks when you LEAD
SFA has rolling admissions for all undergraduate programs. That means you can apply anytime. Although, applying early allows you the opportunity to participate in the Lumberjack Early Achievement and Decision program. Think of it as a VIP track for early birds that gets you priority access to some major perks before the rest of the incoming class.
Being in the LEAD program essentially puts you at the front of the line for all the important stuff. Here is a quick breakdown of how it works and what you get out of it:
Orientation perks
Summer orientation days fill quickly. When you secure your spot in the LEAD program, you'll get first dibs to select your preferred Orientation date.
Class registration perks
All incoming students must meet with their academic advisor prior to registering for classes.
As a LEAD participant, you'll receive priority advising appointments. This clears your advising hold faster and gets you signed up for the sections you really want.
Qualify by Dec. 1
To get these perks, you will need to check a few administrative boxes by Dec. 1:
1. Apply to SFA
Submit your application for admission. You need to officially apply to SFA and complete any supplemental documents.
2. Get "TSI Complete"
You must register for a placement test or determine if you're exempt. Scores or exemption must be received and processed before you can apply for housing or register for Orientation. Learn more about TSI.
Required by Texas law for all students in Texas public colleges and universities.
3. Immunization record
Submit your meningitis shot record. Do this as soon as possible. Your immunization record must be processed and approved before you can apply for housing or register for Orientation.
Required by Texas law for all students who'll live on campus or take in-person classes.
Secure financial assistance
You also should complete your FAFSA loan application, SFA's general scholarship application and explore the vast opportunities for financial assistance.
One thing to remember: You absolutely do not have to be a LEAD student to attend SFA. It's totally optional, but if you have your documents together early, it is a fantastic way to secure your housing and classes before everyone else!
Key dates & deadlines for incoming undergraduates
Jan. 15
Register for Orientation
One-day, multi-session summer event required for first-year freshmen. Register early to get your preferred date!
Feb. 1
SFA's General Scholarship Deadline
One scholarship application. Hundreds of of university-endowed scholarships. The platform finds the ones in which you meet criteria.
March 16
Apply for Housing
The Residence Life portal typically opens late March for student who've submitted required documents.
April 1
The Purple Promise
Eligible incoming students attend SFA without student loans or paying out of pocket. We'll cover your tuition. That's a promise!
