B2B is dedicated to increasing the retention and graduation rates of African-Americans and other students of color enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University. B2B is concerned with the intellectual growth, social enrichment, and cultural issues regarding students of color enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University. B2B seeks to create a brotherhood of accountability amongst its members and to educate males on the importance of manhood.
Program Structure
Academic Excellence:
B2B seeks to ensure males of color success through retention and graduation. Studies have shown that study hours and one-on-one meetings with professors greatly increase membership success in the aforementioned goals.
- Members will be required to complete 3 study hours each week.
- Members whose GPA falls below 2.75 will be required to complete 5 study hours each week.
- Members whose GPA falls below 2.5 will be required to complete a meeting with their B2B Professional mentor and academic advisor. Member will also be required to complete 5 study hours each week.
- Members will be required to complete a one-on-one meeting with each of their professors 3 times each semester (Beginning of the Semester, Mid-Semester, End of the Semester).
Campus Involvement:
B2B seeks to ensure all members have a transformative college experience in which campus involvement promotes.
- Members will be required to join and stay actively involved in at least one registered student organization.
Mentoring:
Access to mentors in higher education has proven to increase the success rates of students and all B2B members will participate in our mentor program. All members will be required to participate in bi-weekly meetings with their peer mentor and 1 meeting a month with their profession mentor..
- Peer Mentors: Are upperclassmen who excel academically and demonstrate strong leadership skills, and self-discipline to guide their mentees.
- Professional Mentors: Are any faculty, staff, graduate, and alumni of the University. They shall serve as role models, resources, and professional contact for their mentees.
