NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Wind Ensemble's concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in W.M. Turner Auditorium will feature guest conductor and composer Jack Stamp, professor of music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Stamp will conduct two of his pieces, "Gavorkna Fanfare" and "In This Hid Clearing," and Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands and the ensemble, will conduct Stamp's "Symphony No. 1," a piece that SFA jointly commissioned.

"We are excited about performing the symphony in the presence of Professor Stamp and to have him work with our students," Allen said. "They learn so much when we have guest artists on campus, but especially when we have someone who is known both as a conductor and composer."

Also during the concert, Dr. Ron Anderson, who is serving his final year as director of the SFA School of Music, will be honored for his years of service to the university. He will guest conduct "Salvation is Created" by Russian composer Pavel Tschesnokoff.

Graduate student Ronnie Pruitt will conduct "Symphony for Band," a piece American composer Morton Gould wrote for the sesquicentennial of the West Point Academy and into which he incorporated traditional songs of the academy.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. W.M. Turner Auditorium is located on the second floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.
