SFA to present student-written, student-directed one act

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of "Coffee and John" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.

The one-act play by SFA theatre students Callum Patrick Hughes and Dave Whitaker, both British exchange students, centers around two men in their forties who are beginning to face the realities of their own lives in New York City. It is a story of deception, politics, sex, addiction, money and unrequited love, explained Brownsville senior Natalia Gutierrez-Borja, the play's director.

The play is recommended for mature audiences.

The cast includes seniors Garrett Cross of Texarkana, Adam McCoy of Daingerfield and Sammy Stanphill of Katy; juniors Robert Meza of Cypress and Emma Palizza of Houston; and Sugar Land sophomore Allen Titel. Dallas freshman Kayla Gaiennie is the playÕs stage manager.

Previously at SFA Gutierrez-Borja has directed "Flop Cop," designed the lighting for "Rising of the Moon" and "27 Wagons Full of Cotton," and been the sound designer for "Defacing Michael Jackson."

She is a current member of The Original Cast and has appeared on stage in "Crimes of the Heart," "Big River: the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "10,000 Cigarettes."
