NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Need help painting a shed, washing windows or cleaning up the garden? Stephen F. Austin State University students are inviting Nacogdoches-area residents to request help with these and other chores as part of The BIG Event.

The fourth annual day of service will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24. Residents, businesses and non-profit organizations are encouraged to submit job request forms to The BIG Event planning committee. Requested projects should take approximately three to four hours to complete.

Job request forms are available online at www.sfasu.edu/thebigevent. Forms are due by midnight Friday, Feb. 24, and no job requests will be taken over the phone. All potential job sites will be visited by members of The BIG Event planning committee for assessment. Applicants will be notified of whether their jobs have been accepted by March 9.

"The BIG Event is a great way for students to interact with the community," said Jamie Bouldin, SFA assistant director for leadership and service. "It is a unique way for students to participate in community service here at SFA."

The planning committee invites project requests from anyone who could use a couple of extra hands for an afternoon, no matter their income level, she said. Requestors will be asked about the availability of supplies, as SFA is limited on the amount of job materials it can provide.

"Unfortunately, due to budget constraints as well as the consideration of safety for our students, we cannot accept all jobs," Bouldin said.
