Real-world preparation
Your coursework balances studio exploration with classroom strategy. You will study how people learn, develop your own teaching philosophy and gain experience through clinical teaching.
This professional preparation makes you ready to earn certification from the Texas Education Agency for K-12 art instruction.
Essential studio experience
You can tailor your experience to match your career ambitions. Your education includes foundational studio practice and 12 credit-hours of specialized training for the art classroom. You'll choose between painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, digital art or photography.
Classroom readiness
Your degree requires specific professional education courses. You will study instructional technology, classroom management and strategies for various student populations. You will also complete a clinical teaching experience to practice your skills in a real K-12 environment.

Requirements for admission to SFA
All applicants must meet the undergraduate admission requirements. Select the option that best describes you:
- First-year student (have never enrolled in college)
- Transfer student (have enrolled in college)
- All other applicants

Priority deadlines
SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
