You want to defend natural habitats and understand how living organisms adapt to a changing planet.
A concentration in ecology and evolutionary biology provides the scientific foundation to study the complex relationships between species and their environments.
You'll graduate ready to step into critical roles in wildlife conservation, environmental consulting and natural resource management.
Apply to the biology master's program
To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:
- meet SFA's graduate school requirements
- achieve an undergraduate 3.0 GPA or higher overall
- and 3.0 GPA in biology-related courses
- and be one of the following:
- in your final year of undergraduate work
- holding a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- or have 95 or more semester hours of undergraduate work at SFA and be approved as an overlap student.
If you don't meet the minimum requirements, you may be admitted on a provisional basis under the guidance of the graduate studies advisor.

There are two options.
1. Non-thesis track with a comprehensive exam
2. Research thesis
Is there a qualifying exam?
Yes. An oral qualifying exam is given before the start of your second semester.
