Hands-on teaching experience

Theory comes to life when you step into an actual classroom. SFA partners with various local school districts to place you in real-world environments beginning in your first semester. These opportunities allow you to observe effective teachers and lead activities firsthand. By the time you reach your clinical teaching semester, you'll be prepared to manage a classroom and foster student success.

Choose your focus

The program offers several paths to help you reach your specific career goals:

EC-6 Reading You will complete 120 credit hours on the science of teaching reading from early childhood through grade six.
Middle Level Education You will focus on either English/Language Arts and Reading or Social Studies for grades 4-8.
Special Education Specialist This track requires 120 credit hours and prepares you to support students with various exceptionalities.

Requirements for admission to SFA

All applicants must meet the undergraduate admission requirements. Select the option that best describes you:

First-year student (have never enrolled in college)
Transfer student (have enrolled in college)
All other applicants

Priority deadlines

SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
