You’ll cultivate the skills needed to manage land that serves multiple purposes. This concentration prepares you to balance timber production, livestock grazing and wildlife habitat needs on the same property. This career directly influences how we sustain resources in a changing world, supporting both agricultural productivity and environmental health.

Specialized skill set

This 128 credit-hour program blends core forestry courses with electives that align with your interests and career goals, such as beef cattle science, animal nutrition, botany, silviculture, chemistry and range management.

Applied research & field work

SFA’s proximity to the Texas Forest Country is a game-changer for your studies. Access to the Soil, Plant and Water Analysis Laboratory and the Todd Agricultural Research Center gives you the tools to conduct real-world research.

Branching out through experience

Between your sophomore and junior years, you’ll head to the field station. For six weeks, the forest will be your classroom. You’ll practice timber inventory, wildlife sampling and mapping in a real-world setting.

The concentration in agroforestry leads to rewarding careers in the federal, state and private sectors. Typical careers for forestry graduates who choose this concentration include soil and water conservationist, soil technician, forestry consultant, natural resource specialist or extension agent. SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
