Teacher talking about holiday to students in class
Overview

Stories that resonate

History teachers connect the past to the lives of today’s students. You bring meaning to complex events for learners who grow up in a digital age.

Through SFA's Bachelor of Arts in history education program, you'll be on the path toward earning your Texas Education Agency teaching certification for students in grades 7 to 12. As part of the curriculum, you'll work in actual classrooms and gain practical skills by interacting with the Texas educational system. Students in our program also enjoy opportunities to work with local historical sites and community programs.

Classroom preparation

You'll choose between a general history teaching track or a broad foundation for teaching social studies. Regardless, courses include professional education topics to prepare you for the classroom. You study human development, curriculum design and effective instructional strategies. The program features clinical teaching to provide hands-on experience in a secondary learning community.

Certification exam

Pairing this concentration with the secondary education minor ensures you're eligible to take the Texas Education Agency's teaching certification exam.
