Overview

This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Music program.

Command the ensemble

You’ll prepare to lead band programs and guide students toward musical excellence. With necessary technical knowledge and leadership strategies, you'll run a successful instrumental music program in public schools. Professions include band directors and private instructors. Come learn to organize performances and mentor young musicians at various stages of their development.

Instrumental leadership training

The woodwinds/brass/percussion music education concentration provides specialized training for teaching wind, brass and percussion instruments in school settings. You’ll learn how to manage classroom dynamics while refining your own performance abilities. The curriculum ensures you possess a deep understanding of band administration and effective rehearsal techniques.

Apply to SFA's music program

The School of Music application is a two-part process. Your acceptance into the music program is contingent upon successful admission to SFA. These two application processes may be completed at the same time.

When you open the School of Music application, begin in the "Start an Application" box. Selecting your intended degree will take you to specific application requirements and audition details. Meeting our standards ensures you're ready for the rigor of our programs.

Priority deadlines

For priority consideration with financial aid, submit your completed application by Jan. 15.

To be eligible for consideration for SFA enrollment, you must meet the undergraduate admission requirements. Select the option that best describes you:

Priority deadlines

For our bachelor's degree programs, we have rolling admissions. That means you can apply anytime. Although, applying early has benefits.
