This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Music program.

Lead your own orchestra

Refine your artistry and prepare for a career in performance, private studio teaching or various other creative roles. This concentration will give you a strong foundation in string performance without requiring teacher certification. You'll enter the workforce ready to perform in ensembles or build a private teaching studio. Dedicate your studies to performance and string pedagogy rather than public school classroom certification.

Intensive string training

You’ll receive intensive training on your primary instrument and benefit from a curriculum that leaves room for elective choices. This flexibility allows you to explore interests like composition, recording technology or chamber music performance.

Apply to SFA's music program

The School of Music application is a two-part process. Your acceptance into the music program is contingent upon successful admission to SFA. These two application processes may be completed at the same time.

When you open the School of Music application, begin in the "Start an Application" box. Selecting your intended degree will take you to specific application requirements and audition details. Meeting our standards ensures you're ready for the rigor of our programs.

Priority deadlines

For priority consideration with financial aid, submit your completed application by Jan. 15.

Priority deadlines

For our bachelor's degree programs, we have rolling admissions. That means you can apply anytime. Although, applying early has benefits.
