Two paths toward the BSN

If you're currently pursuing or have already earned your associate degree, there's a path ready for you to earn your Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Associate degree earned?

If you already hold an associate degree or diploma in nursing, 30 credit-hour traditional RN-to-BSN path is built for you.

You'll review core concepts like health assessment while exploring advanced topics in community health and nursing leadership.

Associate degree in progress?

If you're enrolled at a partnering institution earning your associate degree, the 31 credit-hour School of Nursing Integrated Curriculum program is your route.

It lets you take SFA bachelor-level courses concurrently while you are still enrolled in your associate degree program. Known by our Lumberjack nurses as "the SONIC track", this option allows you to graduate with your BSN in as little as one semester after finishing your associate degree.

Our mission is to provide students a foundation for success as graduate nurses who are ethical, competent critical thinkers by providing an educational environment that promotes holistic healthcare in an educational community dedicated to teaching, research, creativity and service.

HOP policy 04.202 provides details on SFA's process of transferring academic credit.

If you completed nursing courses at another institution with a grade C or higher and remain in good academic standing, you may receive credit toward your degree plan.

The program coordinator will review the documentation and provide a recommendation the the School of Nursing director. Refer to SON HOP 3.7 for additional details.

Post-RN application process for the RN-BSN program

Applications to the program are accepted and reviewed year-round.

There are four convenient start terms each year, allowing you to choose if you begin coursework in August, October, January or May. Select the timeline that works best for your professional shift schedule and personal life.

You should submit your materials several months before your preferred start term to ensure a smooth enrollment process.

Apply to the program:

Follow the traditional RN-BSN transfer application process.

You need to:

Apply to SFA as a transfer student and select the online nursing option.
After paying the required fee, email the DeWitt School of Nursing RN-BSN program coordinator to confirm your file is under review.

Follow the SONIC concurrent application process:

Once you have been accepted into the ADN program at one of SFA's partnering institutions, complete the following steps:

Contact the DeWitt School of Nursing RN-BSN program coordinator to verify your eligibility and receive specific guidance.
Apply to SFA as a transfer student and pay the application fee.
Secure formal permission from your current institution to take SFA classes at the same time.
