This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Science in sociology program. It contains 24 credit-hours of courses specializing in anthropology.

Hands-on discovery
Fieldwork serves as an essential component of your education. You'll engage in real-world learning through service-learning courses, internships, field schools or community research projects. These experiences connect you directly to the work of professional anthropologists.
Program structure
The anthropology concentration is available within both the Sociology, BA and Sociology, BS degree programs. The concentration requires specific coursework, including:
- Core Anthropology: You take courses in cultural anthropology, physical anthropology and archaeology.
- Practical Labs: You complete dedicated laboratory courses in physical anthropology and archaeology.
- Advanced Methodology: You select from options such as field methods in archaeology or qualitative research methods.
- Specialized Electives: You complete nine additional hours of advanced (3000-4000 level) anthropology coursework.
Research and facilities
The department’s Anthropology and Archaeology Laboratory is certified by the Texas Historical Commission. It serves as a hub for research and houses a variety of held-in-trust collections for the state of Texas, providing you with unique opportunities for hands-on study.

SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
