Exemption applies to tuition and mandatory fees for which SFA receives tax support (for example, a course that doesn't depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover its costs), including tuition and mandatory fees charged for a dual credit course.

Eligibility

Eligible students are those who:

  • enroll at SFA as an undergraduate student or dual credit course before becoming 25 years of age
  • and was under the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services:
    • on the day before they turned 18
    • on or after they turned 14, if they also were eligible for adoption on or after that day
    • on the day they graduated from high school or received their GED
    • on the day before they were adopted or permanent managing conservatorship was awarded to a person other than their parent, if occurred Sept. 1, 2009 or later
    • or during an academic term in which they were enrolled in a dual credit course.

How to apply

Upload documents from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services using the directions below:

  1. Login to mySFA.
  2. Select "Billing" from the navigation.
  3. Locate the "Billing Information" box.
  4. Click the "Upload Contract / Exemption Paperwork" link.
  5. Select "Foster Care and Adoption Waiver" from the drop-down menu.
  6. Upload the documents.
