TEC § 54.366: Students Under Conservatorship of the DFPS

Exemption applies to tuition and mandatory fees for which SFA receives tax support (for example, a course that doesn't depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover its costs), including tuition and mandatory fees charged for a dual credit course.

Eligibility

Eligible students are those who:

  • enroll at SFA as an undergraduate student or dual credit course before becoming 25 years of age
  • and was under the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services:
    • on the day before they turned 18
    • on or after they turned 14, if they also were eligible for adoption on or after that day
    • on the day they graduated from high school or received their GED
    • on the day before they were adopted or permanent managing conservatorship was awarded to a person other than their parent, if occurred Sept. 1, 2009 or later
    • or during an academic term in which they were enrolled in a dual credit course.

TEC § 54.367: Adopted Students Formerly in Residential Care

Exemption applies to tuition and mandatory fees.

Eligibility

Eligible students are those who were:

  • in foster or other residential care
  • adopted
  • and the subject of an adoption assistance agreement under Subchapter D, Chapter 162, Texas Family Code.
