NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s construction management students in the James I. Perkins College of Education’s School of Human Sciences and Professional Studies will host the “Hard Hat Jacks @ The Village Nac Open House” featuring their work on The Village Nac Neighborhood 2 Shower and Laundry Project from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 at The Village Nac at 1188 County Road 823 in Nacogdoches. The event is free and open to the public.

Through a partnership with The Village Nac, a faith-based community of tiny homes for those experiencing mental health struggles and homelessness, and a grant from the Charles and Lois Marie Bright Foundation, SFA’s construction management students built a shower and laundry house for their capstone project this semester.

“Now in its fifth year, this partnership exposes students to real-world applications to better understand construction process and management techniques, all while leaving a mark for a cause that really makes a difference,” said David Martin, construction management program director at SFA.

To build this new structure for The Village Nac, the students utilized a variety of their learned skills to lay the foundation, erect the wood frames and coordinate the mechanical, electrical and plumbing work with outside contractor B&F Construction.

Nacogdoches community members are encouraged to attend the open house to view the homes students constructed and hear their experiences on the project. For more information about the construction management program, visit gosfa.com/construction-management
