Overview

This graduate concentration is part of the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program.

Developing the youngest learners

Focus on the unique developmental needs of young learners. With this concentration, you’ll explore play-based learning, literacy and STEAM education. Coursework supports mastering the skills to create engaging and supportive environments with topics that include:

  • Foundations: Understand the principles of early childhood development.
  • Learning Environments: Design effective play-based learning spaces.
  • Curriculum: Build age-appropriate, standards-based curricula.
  • Language and Literacy: Deepen your approach to reading instruction.
  • STEAM: Integrate science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
  • Advocacy: Become a leader and advocate for young children.

To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:

  • meet SFA's graduate school requirements
  • have an overall undergraduate 2.5 GPA or higher
  • have a valid Texas teaching certificate
  • and hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
