Overview

Built for the real world

Everything you touch, from the phone in your pocket to the buildings around you, relies on Earth materials. As a geologist, you’ll be the one to find those resources and understand the ground they stand on.

If you’re looking for a career that combines the best of modern technology with good old-fashioned detective work, you’ve turned over the right stone! You’ll combine modern technology with classic investigative skills to solve complex problems. Whether you choose to hunt for energy resources or protect communities from natural hazards, this degree gives you the foundation to succeed.

Science in the dirt

Classroom theory only takes you so far. At SFA, you’ll get out of the lecture hall and into the field early and often. You will gain hands-on experience by working alongside professors on active research projects.

Come gain a competitive edge thanks to our extensive core repository. Donated by the East Texas Geological Society, our facility holds thousands of feet of real drill cores. You’ll use professional-grade tools that many other undergraduate students never get to touch.

Dive deeper into specialized coursework

If you want to spend more time analyzing complex Earth systems and refining the specific skills employers look for in competitive geoscientists, consider the geosciences concentration.
