The geosciences concentration is a 120-hour track designed for pushing your technical expertise further. You’ll combine your core geological foundation with advanced analytical training. Prepare for specialized roles, such as working in technical energy exploration or pursuing advanced research. Spend more time analyzing complex Earth systems and refining the specific skills employers look for in competitive geoscientists.

You’ll add advanced coursework that sets your resume apart. This concentration allows you to focus on high-level subjects like:

Quantitative chemistry: Gain mastery over inorganic or organic chemical processes.

Research at your fingertips

A core piece of this concentration is the Geoscience Research requirement. You will work directly on an active project, applying scientific methods to solve real-world problems. Beyond that, you have 12 hours of advanced electives to tailor your degree. Whether you’re interested in Cave and Karst Systems or Subsurface Exploration Techniques, you pick the topics that align with your career goals.

SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
