This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Science in family sciences program.

You can turn your passion for helping others into a lifelong profession. This concentration will strengthen your ability to help people optimize their personal environments. You'll learn to tackle complex social issues and build stronger communities.

This interdisciplinary program explores how individuals interact with the world around them. You'll study everything from nutrition and hospitality to human development and design. We welcome students who want to make a real difference.

Stepping into the field

You need more than classroom theory to succeed. You'll participate in service learning hours and complete an internship tailored to your career goals. These experiences help you build a professional network before you even graduate.

You also have the chance to expand your worldview. We offer study abroad opportunities to see how different cultures approach family and consumer sciences.

This 120-hour concentration prepares you for broad employment across government agencies, social services and the hospitality industry. You must also select a supporting minor like business, communications, art or journalism. This is the right choice if you want to work directly in corporate, retail or community roles.

SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
