This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Science in Forestry program.

Fire is a critical part of a healthy forest. You’ll gain the technical knowledge to manage these complex landscapes, reducing wildfire threats while using fire as a tool to promote wildlife habitat and watershed health.

This degree path prepares you for a meaningful career in forest fire prevention and suppression. Curriculum blends core forestry studies with advanced coursework focused on fire behavior and management strategies.

Come focus your studies on the science of how fire behaves. You’ll examine how fire interacts with forest ecology and learn techniques to implement prescribed burns safely. By combining scientific study with real-world practice, you’ll graduate ready to safeguard natural resources.

Program Highlights

Branching out through experience

Between your sophomore and junior years, you’ll head to the field station. For six weeks, the forest will be your classroom. You’ll practice timber inventory, wildlife sampling and mapping in a real-world setting.

Requirements for admission to SFA

All applicants must meet the undergraduate admission requirements. Select the option that best describes you:

First-year student (have never enrolled in college)
Transfer student (have enrolled in college)
All other applicants

Priority deadlines

SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
