This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Science in Forestry program.

Managing natural resources

The forest is a dynamic entity that intimately links people, plants and animals in a common community. Forest management blends environmental science, economic strategy and community planning. Come gain the skills required to oversee expansive timberlands, protect fragile ecosystems and balance corporate goals with conservation efforts.

This curriculum will focus your studies on long-range planning and resource valuation. You'll take classes in forest economics, regional silviculture, timber management and resource policy to build a well-rounded foundation.

Beyond the textbooks

Textbooks only tell part of the story. You'll gain hands-on experience at several dedicated research locations, including the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest, East Texas Plant Materials Center andSFA Foundation Forests

Branching out through experience

Between your sophomore and junior years, you’ll head to the field station. For six weeks, the forest will be your classroom. You’ll practice timber inventory, wildlife sampling and mapping in a real-world setting.

First-year student (have never enrolled in college)
Transfer student (have enrolled in college)

Priority deadlines

SFA has rolling admissions. That means you can apply to the university anytime. Although, applying early has financial and housing benefits. Make sure to check with your specific department! Some programs need extra paperwork by a certain date to consider you for the upcoming semester.
