The human development and family studies concentration shifts the focus toward advanced research and clinical application in studying people within the context of their relationships, families and communities.This focus area prioritizes family systems and developmental milestones. It is an excellent foundation for careers that require empathy, assessment skills and the ability to navigate complex social dynamics.

It is designed to move your studies beyond understanding human behavior. Prepare to step into a career where you can actively design interventions, lead social programs or provide specialized care.

Graduate coursework moves past general theories. You'll examine cognitive, emotional and physical changes from infancy through aging. You'll also study how families function under stress. This includes navigating conflict and family transitions like illness or economic hardship.

We'll teach you to build and evaluate community programs. You'll develop strong quantitative and qualitative research skills to support vulnerable populations. You'll analyze community issues and deploy evidence-based strategies to solve them.

Although our courses are online, we don’t overlook the importance of hands-on, direct experience. You’ll complete a 200-hour practicum that will help you grow in your field of interest. Professional development programs, field trips and volunteering opportunities also are available.

This program requires 30 credit-hours including a thesis, or 36 credit-hours without a thesis. If you’re interested in a career in higher education or seek a better understanding of the research process, the thesis track is right for you.
