The linguistics concentration program immerses you in the study of language and culture. You'll gain academic training that prepares you for graduate study, professional research or the workforce.

SFA offers rare undergraduate opportunities that typically appear only at the graduate level. You gain hands-on experience in these specialized areas:

  • Forensic linguistics: Examining language use in legal and investigative contexts.
  • Invented languages: Creating complex linguistic systems like those found in popular fantasy literature and film.
  • Field methods: Engaging in rigorous, direct linguistic data collection and analysis.

To pursue a concentration in linguistics, you'll need to complete 14 credit hours of study in a language. Your academic advisor is a great resource when selecting electives that fit your specific career goals.
