This graduate concentration is a specialized track within the Master of Science in nutrition and integrative health program.
An ACEND-accredited combined program, requirements integrate your master's degree coursework with a dietetic internship.
Path to licensure
The program is typically completed in two years, with the first year focusing on graduate coursework and the second focusing on supervised practice. You'll complete at least 1,000 hours of supervised practice to meet program requirements.
Upon successful completion of both the master's degree and the internship, you become eligible to sit for the national registration exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
Travel expectations
Clinical rotations
Required clinical rotations are available in the Lufkin/Nacogdoches and Tyler/Longview areas. Elective clinical rotations are completed elsewhere in East Texas to increase your real-world exposure. Every effort is made to schedule rotations within a 90-mile radius of your home base.
Visiting campus
You should plan to visit campus to attend class on Mondays. Our students often carpool together, especially those living in the Tyler/Longview area.
Applying to the registered dietitian graduate track
To be eligible for consideration into the registered dietitian concentration, you must:
- meet all admission criteria for the nutrition and integrative health master's program
- and hold a Didactic Program in Dietetics verification statement.
Submit your Dietetic Inclusive Centralized Application. The application is open Aug. 5 to Jan. 15. Be sure to read the DICAS website information regarding the required documentation, application process and rules.
You'll receive a decision notification from SFA by March 1. To continue the enrollment process, you must notify the program director of your acceptance by March 15. Spots that are not accepted by this deadline will be offered to students on the waitlist.
After acceptance into SFA's registered dietitian graduate concentration, the program director will send you a checklist of required information for your application to the Graduate School.
Applying to the nutrition and integrative health master's program
Requirements for admission
To be eligible for consideration into the Nutrition and Integrative Health, MS program, you must:
- meet the SFA Graduate School requirements
- achieve an undergraduate 2.5 GPA or higher overall
- complete a graduate-level statistics course if you did not take one at the undergraduate level.
- and be one of the following:
- in your final year of undergraduate work
- holding a bachelor’s degree in nutrition or allied health field from a regionally accredited college or university
- or have 95 or more semester hours of undergraduate work at SFA and be approved as an overlap student.

Credentialing Exam
Pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration exam for registered dietitian nutritionists.
Licensure
Check your state's requirements, as many employers in Texas and elsewhere require specific licensure for registered dietitian nutritionists.
