Hurricane Ida

Hurricane Monitoring

Message from President Gordon

Aug. 27, 2021

Dear campus community,

The most recent forecast indicates Hurricane Ida will make landfall late Sunday on the Louisiana coast. Current projections show the East Texas area receiving only moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms predicted Saturday and light rain throughout the weekend.

Based on this projection, there are currently no plans to change next week’s class schedule or university operations, but we will continue monitoring Ida’s path and alter plans as needed based on the hurricane’s trajectory. Campus housing and dining will remain open and operate as normally scheduled.

All Lumberjacks are encouraged to remain aware of weather conditions and to put safety first when making travel decisions. Those Lumberjacks traveling to Louisiana and other areas impacted by high winds and potential flooding are advised to stay home or travel with extreme caution.

For regular updates, monitor your SFA email, the UPD emergency management page, and the university's social media accounts for important official updates. If you have not already done so, sign up for JackAlerts through mySFA to receive emergency notifications to your phone or email.
