SFA School of Art reschedules artists’ virtual talks


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art has rescheduled exhibition talks with artists Sarah Fisher and Karen Eisele via Zoom for 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25.

The exhibitions – Fisher and Rachel Anderson’s “Found/Loaded” and Eisele’s “Encoded” – are showing in The Ed and Gwen Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, SFA’s historic downtown art gallery. The shows can be viewed in person through March 20.

SFA Symphony Orchestra concert rescheduled


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A concert by the Stephen F. Austin State University Symphony Orchestra, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23, is rescheduled for Friday night, Feb. 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, will perform Max Richter’s “The Four Seasons Recomposed” at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Seating is limited, and audience members must wear facial coverings and socially distance themselves from others not in their immediate group.

Artists exhibiting in SFA gallery to give virtual talks, tour

SFA Symphony Orchestra to perform Richter’s ‘The Four Seasons Recomposed’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A highlight of an upcoming concert of the Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will be a performance of composer Max Richter’s “The Four Seasons Recomposed.”

The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Cole Concert Hall. Seating is limited, and audience members must wear facial coverings and socially distance themselves from others not in their immediate group.

Biology student selected to represent SFA at 2021 Texas Undergraduate Research Day


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Kasey Jobe will represent Stephen F. Austin State University at the 2021 Texas Undergraduate Research Day held virtually at the state Capitol Feb. 23 and 24.

Jobe, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in forestry, worked with Dr. Christopher Schalk, assistant professor of forest wildlife management at SFA’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, to investigate how installation methods affect snake entanglement in erosion control blankets.

SFA School of Theatre to present student-directed ‘Last Chance’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play “Last Chance” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus. The show will also be livestreamed.

SFA’s OMA to emphasize perspective, perseverance during annual Black History Month celebration


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Celebrations honoring Black History Month, held annually each February, may be especially poignant this year as Americans continue to process the racial unrest that escalated throughout 2020. Staff members in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs hope to unpack some of those events as they discuss Black history and culture during the annual Black History Month Celebration.

SFA School of Theatre to present ‘The Maids’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Rick Jones believes that working on plays like Jean Genet’s “The Maids” is “how you get better.”

“Any actor or director who isn’t a little scared of this play isn’t paying sufficient attention,” the Stephen F. Austin State University professor of theatre said of the final play he will direct before his retirement from SFA at the end of the academic year.

SFA Office of Multicultural Affairs to host first Brave Space of spring semester


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will discuss self-reflection, empowerment, community building and radical empathy during the first Brave Space Series of the spring semester.

Solo El Pueblo Salva Al Pueblo (Only the People Save The People) is a workshop where participants will have the opportunity to discuss how the power of the people can help overturn worldwide systems of oppression, as well as participate in activities that demonstrate the steps individuals can take in their own sphere of influence.

SFA Regents approve sidewalk expansion, tour new beef barn facility


Nacogdoches will become a more pedestrian-friendly community thanks to actions taken by members of the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents during their quarterly meeting Tuesday.

SFA will provide $13,282 to the Texas Department of Transportation in support of a pedestrian improvement project along Starr Avenue from Clark Boulevard to Cardinal Street.
