SFA Rusche College of Business offers study-abroad experiences in France, Austria


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business offers students the opportunity to study abroad in France and Austria through partnerships with two business schools.

Since 2013, SFA business students have had the opportunity to study at either Groupe Sup De Co La Rochelle in France or MCI Management Center Innsbruck in Austria, which are both business schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

SFA theatre students take on dual roles, duties for SummerStage Festival


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Learning one’s lines for a play can be hard enough for any actor, but when you’re a student actor at Stephen F. Austin State University and involved in the SummerStage Festival, you will often find yourself learning lines for two different characters in two different plays … all at the same time.

Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building on schedule to be completed by fall 2018


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Structural steel beams are being placed and foundational concrete poured as construction of the Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building remains on schedule to be completed by fall 2018 on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

“The project began with the demolition of Todd and Gibbs Halls. The site then had selective tree clearing and grading to prepare for foundation construction,” said Ron Watson, associate director of SFA’s physical plant department. “First-floor concrete placement and the related under-slab plumbing and electrical rough-in continue.”

SFA to screen Academy Award-winning “Inside Out”


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the Academy Award-winning Disney Pixar film “Inside Out” at 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Directed by Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen, “Inside Out” is an inventive animated film that takes the audience on a journey to discover the “emotional roller coaster ride inside your head,” according to information at movies.disney.com.

Registration underway for Junior Jacks theatre day camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Registration is continuing for Junior Jacks Theatre Camp at Stephen F. Austin State University. The popular two-week School of Theatre camp is designed for children entering third through ninth grades. This year’s camp is scheduled for Monday, July. 31, through Saturday, Aug. 12. Registration deadline is July 28.

SFA’s Lil’ STEM Jacks camp offered for children ages 6 to 9


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Enrollment for children ages 6 through 9 is still available in Stephen F. Austin State University’s STEM Research and Learning Center’s Lil’ STEM Jacks, which runs July 25 and 26 on the SFA campus.

Lil’ STEM Jacks captures children’s attention in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by providing opportunities to learn and play in hands-on activities related to STEM disciplines.

SFA Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature horticulturist Greg Grant


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Greg Grant will present “A Bright Spot in the Heart of Texas: The Idea Garden.”

Grant is horticulturist for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Smith County. He also is an award-winning writer, conservationist and seventh-generation Texan from Arcadia, Texas.

Annual 12x12 event raises funds for SFA art scholarships


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Silent bidding in this year’s 12x12 scholarship fundraiser for the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University is underway at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The silent auction features 12-by-12-inch pieces of art created by approximately 70 artists from Nacogdoches, Lufkin and other areas of East Texas. Anyone may silently bid on the unique one-of-a-kind pieces, according to Crystal Hicks, event committee chairwoman.

SFA’s summer children’s show promotes joys of reading


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – When Angela Bacarisse begins to consider children’s shows she may want to direct for the annual SummerStage Festival at Stephen F. Austin State University, a desire to promote and encourage reading is at the heart of the decision.

The School of Theatre professor who has directed summer kids' favorites like "The Emperor's New Clothes: The Musical," "How I Became a Pirate" and last year’s "A Year With Frog and Toad," Bacarisse often draws from personal experience and a love of reading to her own son to make the choice.

Discussion to highlight historical significance of ‘The Miracle Worker’ play


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Audience members who attend the July 6 performance of William Gibson’s play “The Miracle Worker” presented by the School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University will experience a unique opportunity to ask questions and discuss the play with student actors, the play’s director and professionals within the disabilities training field.
