Make scholarship applications a priority

You’ve completed your application to SFA, scheduled an appointment with an advisor, found a place to live and even mocked up a class schedule. Your next step: Identify a method to help you pay for it all.   

SFA students have access to hundreds of sources for scholarship funding to help with college expenses. But first, you need to explore and apply!

Geology scholarships

Lumberjacks pursuing a major or minor in geology are also eligible for several specific scholarships, including:

Austin A. Sartin-Sigma Gamma Epsilon Geology Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to promising freshman or transfer students majoring in geology. Awards are based on academic performance and faculty recommendations. 

Geology Faculty Scholarship

Undergraduate geology majors can receive awards up to $500 per year. To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a junior or senior
  • Be a member of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon club
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and a major GPA of 3.25 or higher.

This scholarship is also open to geology graduate students with an overall GPA of 3.5 and one year of graduate school completed.

Geology Field Camp Scholarship

Full-time geology students may apply for a departmental scholarship to help cover the cost of attending GEOL 3664 (field geology). Talk to an advisor to learn more.

Geology Lab Manual Scholarship

Full-time geology students may apply for a departmental scholarship funded by the sale of geology lab manuals. This scholarship is open to freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students. Email the geology department to learn more.

Frank and Eva Hood-Goldsberry Scholarship

This scholarship helps cover course fees and travel expenses for students enrolled in GEOL 3664 (field geology) during the Summer I semester. Students must be geology majors and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher to qualify. 

Martin J. Deuth Scholarship

Outstanding geology students can receive up to $2,000 per year. This scholarship is available to junior or senior geology majors who are enrolled at SFA full-time.   

Mark Hess Scholarship

This scholarship awards up to $500 per year to a geology major who has a 2.5 GPA or higher.

University Regents Scholarship – Geology

This award opportunity, which provides up to $3,000 per year, is for first-time incoming students at the freshman, sophomore or junior level who plan to major in geology. Learn more about requirements and renewals. 

W.T. Williamson Scholarship

This scholarship provides up to $550 per year to students graduating from Cushing High School, and preference will be given to a recipient majoring in forestry, agriculture, biology or geology. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher and demonstrate financial need.
