This concentration is offered within the Bachelor of Science in dance program.

Classroom-ready training

Step into the shoes of a professional educator through specialized coursework. You’ll study human development and learn how to design curriculums that resonate with various student needs.

Gain practical experience during your final semester. You’ll complete clinical teaching in a secondary school to refine your instructional style.

Expect to stay active in technique courses like ballet, modern, and jazz throughout your journey. Your commitment to studio work ensures you remain a versatile and skilled artist while you prepare for your teaching career.

Path to certification

This professional preparation makes you ready to earn certification from the Texas Education Agency. You'll complete specialized coursework in dance for educators and directing for youth alongside rigorous professional education requirements.

Apply to SFA's dance program

The Denard Haden School of Theatre and Dance application is a two-part process. Your acceptance into the dance program is contingent upon successful admission to SFA. These two application processes may be completed at the same time.

All the information you need is below, or you can learn more by attending Pliés in the Pines.

When you are ready to begin, complete the online audition application.

You will begin your path to the SFA dance program by preparing a professional portfolio. Faculty members review these materials before you participate in an audition.

Apply in three steps

You will follow this process to complete your admission requirements:

  • Submit your portfolio. Email your headshot, dance resume, film links and audition form to the department administrative office.
  • Schedule your audition. Use the online audition application to select a date. You must submit your portfolio before this date.
  • Apply to the university. Submit your application to SFA to finalize your official admission status.

Prepare for your audition

You will perform for the faculty members in person or via video submission. If you audition in person, wear a black leotard, black leggings and ballet slippers.

If you choose a remote audition, you will still register for a date using the online audition application. This registration acts as your deadline for your video submission. Your video will demonstrate:

  • ballet barre work
  • adagio and allegro movement
  • jazz technique
  • and modern dance connectivity

Priority deadlines

For our bachelor's degree programs, we have rolling admissions. That means you can apply anytime. Although, applying early has benefits.
