NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As a final countdown commenced, attendees at Houston’s 99th annual Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree-Lighting Ceremony at City Hall turned their attention to the event’s centerpiece — a 65-foot-tall white fir tree located in Hermann Square. SFA A Cappella Choir to perform Pizzetti, Gabrieli, Whitacre
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform Messa di Requiem by Ildebrando Pizzetti when the choral student ensemble presents a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Conducted by Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities for the SFA School of Music, the choir will also perform “Angelus Domini á 8” by Giovanni Gabrieli, Vineam meam non custodivi by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine” by Eric Whitacre.
SFA’s Tomlinson to perform works by Cangelosi, Nozny, others
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present faculty member Dr. Ben Tomlinson performing a percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The program features a selection of music that spans many different percussion instruments and includes works by Casey Cangelosi, Pat Jacobs, Brian Nozny, J.S. Bach, Paul Lansky and Minoru Miki.
Middle school girls explore careers at Expanding Your Horizons
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Nacogdoches branch of the American Association of University Women hosted the 26th annual Expanding Your Horizons career awareness conference Feb. 29 at Stephen F. Austin State University.
The 400 girls in sixth to eighth grades who attended the conference signed up for this opportunity and traveled from as far away as Shreveport, Louisiana, to learn about careers ranging from agriculture, food and natural resources to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

NOBLE banquet to honor local high school students
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The 29th annual Nacogdoches County’s Opportunity for a Better Learning Experience banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 30, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Nearly 200 students were invited to attend this year’s banquet, which will honor Nacogdoches County high school seniors who chose a more rigorous recommended or distinguished program of study in their high school courses and completed a service project.
SFA among Study.com’s 50 Best Hospitality and Tourism Schools for 2020
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University is one of only two Texas universities included in Study.com’s list of 50 Best Hospitality and Tourism Schools for 2020.
The rankings are based on information from the U.S. Department of Education, which includes tuition costs, graduation rates, acceptance rates and student-to-faculty ratios. On-site facilities for hands-on learning and internship and networking opportunities also were considered.
