Percussionist Perez to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Francisco Perez will present a guest percussion recital at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Perez is a percussionist, composer and educator from Pflugerville. He currently serves as assistant professor of music (percussion) at Lamar University in Beaumont where he oversees all aspects of the percussion studio. His performance at SFA will feature the electro-acoustic repertoire of percussion, including works he has composed or commissioned.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — SFA Gardens and Resilient Nacogdoches welcome gardeners and seed savers to join in Nacogdoches’ fifth annual seed swap beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

SFA percussionist Meyer to present faculty recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Meyer will perform works by Andrew Hannon, Baljinder Singh Sekhon II, Thom Hasenpflug, Matthew Burtner, Casey Cangelosi and Jim Casella.

New scholarship supports students whose parent or spouse has died in the line of duty


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Beginning in fall 2020, Stephen F. Austin State University students who have suffered the loss of a law enforcement officer parent or spouse killed in the line of duty can apply for a scholarship designed to help them move forward.

The scholarship was prompted by the death of Bobbie Hargis Todd's father, Nacogdoches Deputy Sheriff John Arlington Hargis, who was killed in 1928 while serving an arrest warrant when Bobbie was only 18 months old.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Parker Art Scholarship awarded to Colombia junior Bates


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Friends of the Visual Arts scholarship committee at Stephen F. Austin State University has selected junior painting student Ericka Bates, of Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia (South America), as this year’s recipient of the Gary R. Parker Art Scholarship.

Duncanville junior Sweet awarded Kinsell scholarship in art at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Cameron Sweet, a junior from Duncanville, was selected as this year’s Robert Kinsell Art Scholarship recipient at Stephen F. Austin State University.  He is studying photography in SFA’s School of Art with a secondary concentration in digital media. The award is presented annually by the Friends of the Visual Arts.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Quincy” at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Cole Art Center announces holiday hours


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University’s historic downtown gallery, will be open during regular gallery hours for a portion of the holiday season through Jan. 4.

Regular hours are from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Cole Art Center will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 23 through 25 and Dec. 30 through Jan. 1.
