Design your career with SFA

One degree. Endless possibilities. At SFA’s Department of Languages, Cultures and Communication, our professors offer hands-on learning and one-on-one guidance to help you find success in whatever career you choose.

Most of our graduates obtain careers with international nonprofits and businesses. Others pursue jobs in hospitality, health communication or teaching. Whether you want to be a translator, a politician or a chief executive officer, the skills you learn here provide the foundation for a thriving career.

Why study languages, culture and communication?

We work with you individually to design a degree plan that best fits your interests. You’ll leave SFA equipped with tools that actually correlate to your career path and give you a competitive advantage. For example, one Lumberjack’s fluency in Portuguese helped him beat out 900 other candidates for a job with a multinational corporation.

What kind of jobs can I get with a language or communication degree?

A degree from the Department of Language, Cultures and Communication can help you pursue a career in just about any field, including:

  • Business and finance
  • Education
  • International relations
  • Law
  • Nonprofit
  • Politics and public service

Job availability and growth

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, “Employment of media and communication occupations is projected to grow four percent from 2014 to 2024, which will result in about 27,400 new jobs. Demand for media and communication occupations should stem from the need to create, edit, translate and disseminate information through a variety of different platforms.”
