Thesis option

The thesis option is designed for students who plan to pursue doctoral degrees or enter positions involving research or scientific writing. This option requires 30 hours of coursework, including the completion of a thesis based on original scientific research.

Required coursework for the degree will depend on your interests and area of emphasis. Although a minor is not required, you may choose to complete a minor in a related discipline.

Graduate students who pursue thesis degrees are eligible for teaching assistantships that provide a modest stipend for a 9-month contract, with the option for additional summer salary.

Non-Thesis option

The non-thesis master’s program consists of 36 hours of coursework that is designed primarily for students who are not planning to pursue a doctoral program or who intend to seek an industry position or employment with a state or federal agency.
