Teaching and Learning Connections is a program meant to help faculty who are new to SFA build their knowledge of teaching while developing connections with other faculty across the campus. For fall 2025, meetings will be held on Aug. 29, Sept. 26, Oct. 31 and Dec. 5. More information will be provided to relevant faculty members via email before the start of fall classes.

Background

For more than a decade, SFA has offered a series of workshops for incoming faculty members on teaching and learning at SFA. The series provides faculty members the opportunity to learn more about a variety of topics, including students as learners, learning theory, instructional planning, assessment, active learning/student engagement, classroom management and facilitating classroom discussions.

The purposes of the series are to facilitate conversations about best practices for teaching and learning at the start of a faculty member’s career at SFA, and to facilitate inter-departmental camaraderie and community among new faculty members. Past cohorts rated their experience positively. More than 90% of participants agreed or strongly agreed that the series was valuable to them as educators, and that the series was valuable in developing camaraderie with other new faculty members.
