Problem-solving together

We welcome problem-solvers to our community of scientists in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. You want to understand how life works; you want to research ways to make it better. We’re here to teach and guide you as you problem-solve through research. In fact, all of our students present their research for a senior capstone project.

Getting that kind of hands-on experience as a chemistry undergraduate is unheard of at most universities, and it’s one of the many advantages of becoming a Lumberjack.

A Message from Interim Department Chair, Dr. Odutayo Odunuga

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Stephen F. Austin State University has a straightforward and important mission – to educate, train and prepare students for what ultimately will become their life’s work. We give our students a complete education both inside and outside the classroom, including presenting a senior research project. Conducting a research project is a valuable educational experience for students to prepare them for successful careers after SFA.
