Tell your instructor you'll be absent

Submit an online faculty notification request if you have or will miss class due to one of the following situations

  • Death of a family member
    • non-family deaths may be considered at the discretion of the dean of students.
  • Admission to a hospital
  • Personal emergency (car accident, drastic life event such as a fire, etc.)
  • Administrative and other (jury duty, court subpoena, etc.)

Circumstances that may be denied: illness, traffic court, oversleeping, physician's appointment, car trouble and emergency room visits (non-admittance to hospital).

Process

  • Your request and documentation will be reviewed and assessed.
Step 3
  • You'll be notified once a decision is made. If your request was approved, the appropriate faculty member also will be notified. Faculty are not notified of denied requests.
Step 4
  • You're responsible for consulting with the faculty member on making up of any missed work, assignments, etc.

Important: Though we may approve your request, it is at the discretion of the faculty member to decide if your absence is considered excused.

Supporting documentation examples

Examples of appropriate documentation to submit with your request include:

  • death certificates
  • obituaries/programs (with name of deceased listed)
  • medical discharge documents
  • a subpoena
  • a jury summons
  • or a police report from an accident.
