If you want to have a career as a composer, then SFA's Bachelor of Music in composition is the right degree for you. From writing marching band shows to scoring video games, there are various types of jobs in composition.

Want to compose jazz? Musical theatre? Orchestra or choir music? We have successful alumni doing these things professionally and our exceptional faculty can give you all the technical and musical skills to achieve your goals.

While enrolled in our program, you'll receive private composition lessons every week as well as classes in:

  • orchestration
  • digital mockups
  • film scoring
  • video-game music
  • counterpoint
  • songwriting
  • and much more.

You'll collaborate with talented performers and have your new compositions read, performed and recorded in our state-of-the-art facilities.

We also offer a master's degree in theory/composition for more advanced students. It's available both on campus and as an online degree, and can help prepare you for a doctoral degree or a job teaching in higher education. Of course, you also can enroll just to continue to build your skills.
