The Literature track is, essentially, the traditional English major. This track encompasses the study of genres and movements across the full range of American, British, and World literature with an emphasis in discussion and textual analysis.
Students explore important literary topics and movements, from the classical to the contemporary, through close study of both canonical and under-the-radar authors, works, and theories of literature. A Shakespeare course is required in this track, as study and critical knowledge of Shakespeare remain crucial to English as a discipline.
Students also take an English professionalization seminar in which they create a plan and conduct customized research on career opportunities, including internships, entry-level jobs, and graduate study.
