New Lumberjacks, join us for camp!

Okay, so you're excited to be coming to SFA in the fall and you have Orientation on the calendar. What's next? We suggest: Jack Camp!

This long-standing SFA tradition is a unique opportunity for incoming students to bond with each other, have fun and begin immersing yourselves in life as a Lumberjack.

Overview

Participants are split between two large groups — the Rusk Tribe and the Austin Tribe — that engage in friendly competition against each other throughout the three-day experience. You also join smaller groups for team-building exercises, group discussions and social activities.

Don't worry, there's plenty of free time built in for pool lounging, enjoying the outdoors and hanging out with new friends.

This retreat is held at *Camp Olympia, one of the best camp facilities in the state. Air-conditioned cabins, on-site cafeteria, athletic fields, a swimming pool and much more are ready to become a part of your memories as a Lumberjack.

Preparing for Jack Camp

Things to know
  • Cell phone service may be spotty. Students may access camp phones for emergency calls.
  • Eat lunch before you arrive.
What to pack
  • Clothing and toiletries: Bring your usual sleepover items and comfortable clothing for outside activities.
    • Plan for the summer heat.
    • We strongly encourage campers to wear tennis shoes.
    • You'll receive your Jack Camp T-shirt upon arrival. Other T-shirts may be purchased for $10 cash at the camp store.
    • There's a themed camp dance! It's a casual event, but you can wear a costume or keep it simple with a themed T-shirt or outfit. We will share the dance theme ahead of time.
  • Bedding: The beds are standard twin bunks, so bring a sheet set and blanket or a sleeping bag, whichever you prefer. Don’t forget your pillow!
  • Cash: Gear or additional $1 snacks may be purchased with cash at the camp store during free time.
Getting there

*Visitors using GPS programs sometimes have difficulty finding the camp, so refer to our driving directions for specific routes to take. You may drive yourself to Jack Camp or have someone drop you off and pick you up.
