This is a non-voting appointment.
Term length: one year (June 1 to May 31)
Appointed by the governor of Texas, the student regent serves to represent all students within The University of Texas System as a non-voting participant on The UT System Board of Regents. A non-voting participant has the same powers and duties as the members of the UT System Board of Regents, with the exception of voting, making or seconding motions, and being counted to determine a quorum.
Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must be “in good standing”, as certified by the registrar’s office
- Commit to fulfill all board-related responsibilities during the term of service
- Maintain a state-wide perspective on higher education (as opposed to representing any single college or university)
- Once appointed, the student regent/student representative must remain enrolled at the institution during the full term
- A 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale must be maintained to continue eligibility
Application Process
September: SFA students are notified through their mySFA email when applications open early September each year.
Due Nov. 1: The following materials must be submitted to SFA's Involvement Center:
- UT System Application for Student Regent (required)
- Office of Governor Appointment Application (required)
- Unofficial transcript (required)
- Head shot (required)
- Résumé (optional)
December: Five applicants are selected for consideration and submitted to The UT System.
By June 1: A selection is made by the governor of Texas.
