The voice of the students

Representing, comprised of and administered entirely by SFA students, the Student Government Association serves as the voice of the SFA student body. SGA uses a model government format. All SFA students are permitted to attend SGA's open meetings.

Student Referendum Vote, Spring 2026

SGA Student Referendum Web Banner

The Student Government Association will hold a special election March 2–3 for students to vote on the proposed establishment of an intercollegiate athletics fee at SFA.

If approved, the fee would begin in Summer 2026 and allow existing tuition and fee dollars currently supporting athletics to be redirected toward broader student experience priorities.

Proposed fee structure
  • Current students: $5 per semester credit hour, capped at 12 hours ($60 maximum per semester), beginning Summer 2026. This rate would remain locked for the duration of continuous enrollment.
  • New students (beginning Fall 2026): $40 per semester credit hour, capped at 12 hours.

The intercollegiate athletics fee would be a mandatory fee and eligible for coverage under Purple Promise, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid.

Approval of the referendum would create a dedicated funding source that allows existing tuition and fee dollars to be reinvested in student experience priorities and would not increase the current athletics budget.

Student government branches

Executive branch

The executive branch comprises the student body president and vice president. The president signs or vetoes senate bills and resolutions. These executives advocate on behalf of students to the university administration and attend quarterly University of Texas System Student Advisory Council meetings in Austin.

Legislative branch

The legislative branch comprises the SGA senate and facilitates the writing and passage of campus-wide initiatives in the form of resolutions and bills. Senators are elected by their peers to represent their respective academic colleges and classifications.

Judicial branch

The Supreme Court presiding over the Student Traffic Court and Conduct Board constitutes the judicial branch of SGA. It also serves as the presiding body for interpreting the SGA Constitution in cases of alleged organizational violations. The Supreme Court often also rules in student conduct cases not associated with SGA.
