A message from the program director, Dr. David Martin

Welcome to Stephen F. Austin State University’s Construction Management program. Whether you are a prospective student or interested in becoming an industry partner, I want to personally encourage you to consider our program. We have several opportunities that are designed to bring students, the industry, and the university together. These include guest speakership series aka “Contractor Talk”, student competitions at TEXO, career fairs, student club memberships, advisory board memberships, and a host of other options to choose from. We are proud of our program and once you learn more about us, we believe you will find it worth investing in.

Our construction management program is unique as our students are given two options to gain real-life experience as part of their two-year long capstone course sequence. In option 1, students get the benefit of overseeing a project from conception to turnover as they design, consult, estimate, plan, procure, and execute an actual construction project for a local non-profit organization. In option 2, students respond to industry-based requests for proposals to provide construction project management services. The proposal includes the students’ plans to establish costs and schedule controls, ensure quality and safety standards, and maintain client and workforce relations. This is within the context of competing against other construction management programs in regional competitions. Currently, students compete in the Region 5 TEXO/ASC Student Competition. Both options provide all of our students with real, practical, experiential knowledge in construction processes and management techniques that is rarely duplicated in other programs.

Take a look at some of the excerpts below to see how our Construction Management program is unlike any other.

Here, an intimate knowledge of construction methods and processes are developed.
